The Ancestor’s Light

We are cut diamonds, twinkling back rays
Transmitted years ago
From a sun millions of miles away.
Beams of audacious light
Gleaming off us
Like polished glass

Some of the ancient’s light we absorb
Acting like prisms
We twist, bend and contour
Make it into something new
With a luster that’s provided by
Wise historic sources

We bend the old ones’ radiance
Shattering it into multiple rays
The brilliance is refracted
Through oddly angled flaws
That make up our very being
We are the chiseled jewel
Carved from dull rock
Shaped to sparkle
In the suns incandesce

We joyfully broadcast these electric hues
Sending them out
Burning with a righteous fire’s glow
To the vast dark universe

Ancient to new, ancestor to prodigy
This illumination is received, then refracted
By our imperfect crystal selves
Transformed into a magnificent spectrum
Of fantastic colors

We pass the torch of knowledge
From generation to generation
Lighting the way for ourselves and others
Along the path we follow
We are beacons of our ancestor’s light
Let it shine brightly through us
Let it shine brightly through me
Let it shine!
