You have discovered a bug... it used to work, but it seems some update has broken this functionality.

Thanks for finding it, now I have to find out how to fix it.

Normal service will be resumed shortly... Just as soon as we've figured out what 'normal' is.

I have tried to add a picture ‘avatar’ to my profile, but I keep getting an error.
