My partner isn't pagan - how do you make it work? was created by Anonymous

Posting anonymously because this feels a bit personal. My partner and I have been together for six years. They were raised Catholic and are now more or less agnostic. They're not hostile to my practice at all, but they don't really get it either, and sometimes I feel like I'm hiding half of myself at home.

How do those of you with non-pagan partners handle it? Do you share rituals with them, keep it separate, something in between?

My husband is a cheerful atheist. What worked for us was finding the overlap: he loves the seasonal meals, the bonfire at Beltane, decorating for Yule. He doesn't call it ritual, but he's there and he's part of it. The more private work I do on my own, and that's fine.

Also, just talk about it. Not to convert, just to share what it means to you.

Respect goes both ways. I go to my wife's family Easter every year and she comes to stand in the circle with me at Samhain. Neither of us has to believe what the other believes to show up for each other.

Thank you both. I think I've been so worried about them judging me that I never actually explained any of it. Going to try the 'shared meal' approach at Beltane. :)
